John Guarascio

John Guarascio is legal advisor to Cherokee in the areas of insurance, environmental, contract, and real estate law. Prior to associating with Cherokee, Mr. Guarascio was a partner at the law firm of Mendes & Mount, LLP in New York City. During his 16 year tenure with Mendes & Mount, Mr. Guarascio advised Lloyd’s of London with respect to environmental, insurance, and general legal issues, while also serving as a litigator specializing in environmental insurance coverage litigation. During his tenure with Mendes & Mount, Mr. Guarascio developed particular expertise in addressing environmental problems associated with former Manufactured Gas Plants (MGPs).

Cases litigated by Mr. Guarascio on behalf of Lloyd’s of London included the EnergyNorth cases that culminated in the New Hampshire Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in EnergyNorth Natural Gas, Inc. v. The Continental Insurance Company, 146 N.H. 156; 781 A.2d 969 (N.H. 2001) and the related ruling of the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire in EnergyNorth Natural Gas, Inc., v. Underwriters at Lloyd's, 2002 DNH 118; 2002 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 10986 (D.N.H. 2002)(J.Barbadaro); See, Aylward, Guarascio 15 Mealey’s Ins. Lit. Rptr. 48, October 23, 2001 (explaining the decisions).

In 1981, Mr. Guarascio earned a B.A. in English Literature with highest distinction from the University of Rochester where he also minored in Chemistry and General Science. In 1985, Mr. Guarascio graduated from Boston College Law School where he served as an editor on the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review and concentrated in both Corporate Law and Environmental Litigation.
