Christopher Wedding is an Associate, Sustainable Planning and Development for Cherokee where he analyzes sustainability and implementation strategies related to green building, alternative energy and sustainable community design. Dr. Wedding’s prior green building and sustainability experience includes research, teaching, and program implementation with the North Carolina Solar Center, the Office of Sustainability at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), the UNC Institute for the Environment and the Biomimicry Guild. Prior to joining Cherokee in 2005, Dr. Wedding completed research in rainforest ecology and sustainable agriculture in Central America and Spain and served as a teacher and cultural ambassador in Japan for the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. Dr. Wedding received a BS from Western Kentucky University, where he was a Goldwater Scholar in Math and Science and the Honors Program Scholar of the Year. He earned an MS in Environmental Science and Management and a PhD focused on green building, which combined studies in business, environmental science and management, and city and regional planning, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Wedding has published numerous professional articles and is a LEED™ Accredited Professional with the U.S. Green Building Council. He has advised on several LEED-certified projects, including two nationally recognized Platinum projects. He resides in Chapel Hill with his wife and two children.
